The main purpose of a highway pavement is to disperse the applied vehicle loads to the sub-grade. A highway pavement is a structure made up of layers of processed materials overlaid above the natural soil sub-grade. The pavement construction must be able to offer a surface with a good riding quality, sufficient skid resistance, good light-reflecting properties, and low noise pollution. The ultimate goal is to make sure that transmitted stresses caused by wheel load are sufficiently decreased so that they won’t surpass the subgrade’s bearing capability. In general, hard pavements and flexible pavements are both acknowledged as providing this function.

The segment of the road or highway raised above the subgrade specifically to support and offer a running surface for vehicular traffic is referred to as the pavement. On roads and highways of higher classification, it could stretch to and encompass the shoulders. The process of calculating the thickness and strength of a pavement placed on a soil foundation (subgrade) in order to provide an even, non-skid, stable, and desirable surface, allowing for efficient, quick, and safe flow of traffic in line with stipulated loads.

XPAVE

XPAVE is an excel application developed for flexible and rigid pavement design in compliance with DPWH Interim Pavement Design Guide. Additionally, this program conducts ESAL calculations and classifies roads based on the DGCS 2015. You can print calculation sheets, layouts, and detailing. XPAVE uses regional codes primarily for Philippine highways.
